Louis A. Modugno is a founding partner of Trif & Modugno LLC, a full-service regional law firm with offices in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. He is a seasoned trial lawyer, strategic business advisor, skilled negotiator, crisis manager, and he possesses unique problem-solving skills forged in courtrooms, experience as a certified public accountant and involvement in significant business and restructuring transactions.

Mr. Modugno represents debtors, borrowers, trustees, assignees, assignors, receivers, lenders, secured creditors, unsecured creditors, shareholders, insurers, lessors and virtually all parties in interest in bankruptcy, receivership, assignment and work-out matters. He has significant insurance industry specific bankruptcy experience and has represented numerous insurers and sureties in bankruptcy cases throughout the United States.

Mr. Modugno has also been listed in Super Lawyers® (2007-2020), a Thomson Reuters business, in the areas of Bankruptcy: Business, General Litigation, and Construction Litigation: Business and has been been listed in their Top 100 Lawyers.

In 2006, Mr. Modugno was named one of New Jersey’s “Top 40 Lawyers under 40” by the New Jersey Law Journal. In addition, Martindale-Hubbell awarded Mr. Modugno its AV Peer Review Rating, its highest level of professional excellence and he has been listed in Best Lawyers® every year since 2015.

Mr. Modugno is a member of the American Bar Association, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Pennsylvania State Bar Association and the Association of the Federal Bar of the State of New Jersey. Mr. Modugno lectures on numerous issues at seminars presented by the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education, The Essex County Bar Association, The American Bankruptcy Institute, The American Bar Association Fidelity and Surety Law Section, the Association of Corporate Growth and numerous clients.

In 2014, Governor Chris Christie named Mr. Modugno as a Commissioner on the State of New Jersey School Ethics Commission. He served as a Commissioner until 2018. In 2018, Governor Christie appointed Mr. Modugno to serve as a Trustee of Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital. He continues to serve as a Trustee. Mr. Modugno also serves on various non-profit boards and volunteers his time of behalf of charitable and religious organizations.

We represent clients in all chapters and aspects of bankruptcy filings including representation in adversary proceedings brought by or against creditors involving, among other things, preference claims, reclamation claims, defaults (including collection of amounts due), possession of collateral and the enforcement of rights and remedies pursuant to mortgages and security interests arising under the Uniform Commercial Code.
